Culture …….That's What You Care About
Despite all efforts, it is becoming increasingly difficult to keep cultural activities, such as the Eindhoven Symphony Orchestra, afloat financially. The trends show rapidly decreasing donations in the Netherlands:
- Total donations fell from 4.7 billion to 4.25 billion between 2009 and 2011 (Giving in the Netherlands, 2011/2013).
- Total donations to culture fell from 454 million to 287 million between 2009 and 2011. The share of donations to culture also fell from 10% in 2009 to 7% in 2011 (Giving in the Netherlands, 2011/2013).
- The largest source of donations remains the companies, but their contribution has fallen from 296 million to 124 million. The share of companies in donations to culture has also fallen from 65% to 43% (Giving in the Netherlands, 2011/2013).
